Head Coach
Coach Thomas Alward is one of the four cornerstones of Goodrich Athletics as he has been coaching at Goodrich for over 33 years. Not many programs still have a coach who has dedicated so much of his time and energy for so long but Coach Alward does it because he loves the kids. Coach Alward has been coaching for a total of 49 years, with his coaching career started at Flint Central becoming their Head JV coach then at his alma mater Burton Bendle. Coach Alward has not only been dedicated to Goodrich for almost 33 years, but he was a dedicated sales rep for Jostens for 35 years. Coach Alward is married to his high school sweetheart Darlene, they have two children Trevor and Jennifer. In Coach Alwards free time he enjoys watching the Detroit Tigers, golf, and of course spending time with his 6 grandchildren (Collin, Emma, Luke, Delaney, Neely, and Grady). A little something interesting about Coach Alward is he is a graduate of The University of Nebraska where he played on a National Championship team. Coach Alward was also drafted in the National Football League (NFL) to the NY Jets. He later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Alward was the first player to ever sign a NFL Contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Defensive Coordinator
Coach Trevor Alward has been coaching for over 28 years with positions at Parchment, Waterford Mott, and Goodrich. Coach Trevor Alward has been coaching with his father Tom Alward for 26 years in multiple different positions including: Linebackers, Running backs, Defensive Backs, Youth football coach, and founder of the Goodrich Youth Program. During the day Coach Trevor Alward is the Superintendent for Grand Blanc Community Schools. Coach Trevor Alward has been married to his wonderful wife Shannon for 23 years and have three sons Collin, Luke, and Grady. Coach Trevor Alward has his Doctorate from the University of Nebraska (same University his father Tom Alward graduated from).
Offensive Line Coach
Coach Bruce Edwards is a pivotal part of the Goodrich Football Program as he does more than just coach the offensive line, he works at the school, he drives buses for athletic events, maintains the athletic fields, and drives the football trailer to away games. Coach Edwards has a total of 38 years in coaching with 28 of them at the home of the Martians. He started his coaching career at his alma mater Flint Hamady, and coached football at Lake Fenton before making his way to Goodrich. Coach Edwards has not only coached football, but he has also coached Track and Powerlifting (which he started at Goodrich in 1997). Coach Edwards is married to his high school sweetheart Drew and they have four kids (Dana, Abbey, Scott, and Dominic). In the little free time Coach Edwards has he enjoys spending that time with his five grand kids.
Defensive Line Coach and Assistant Offensive Line Coach
Coach T has been coaching for over 16 years with 11 of those years here at Goodrich. Coach T started coaching in 2009 as an Offensive Line Coach at Burton Bentley, after three years Coach T was hired as one of the Co-Head Coaches at Burton Bentley and served as Head Coach for 3 years. Coach T has been married to his beautiful wife Jessica for six years and they have three dogs (Marvin, Murphy, and Izzie) that they spend their time with. During the day Coach T is a Loss Control Consultant with Accident Fund Insurance. Coach T is a 2001 graduate of Goodrich High School and had the honor to play under Coach Alward from 1998-2000.
Defensive Backs and Wide Receives Coach
Coach Mahaffy has 8 years of coaching experience, starting at his alma mater Brandon and then joining the Martians in 2019. He also coached freshman basketball at Goodrich in the 2019-20 season. He is currently the Head JV Boys Basketball Coach here at Goodrich. He has been married to his wife, Ashlee, for 16 years and they have 4 kids (Grace, JJ, Olivia and Julia). When the family isn’t attending sporting events they enjoy camping and hanging with family. Coach Mahaffy has worked for General Motors for 18 years and moved to Goodrich after being transferred to Flint assembly in 2012.
Running Backs and Linebackers Coach
Coach Accardo has roughly 6 years of coaching experiencing with this being his second year at Goodrich. Coach Accardo started coaching in 2012 as an Offensive Coordinator and QB coach at Burton Bentley with Coach T. Coach Accardo brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the game. Coach Accardo is a IT Sales Recruiter by day and he is married to his wonderful wife Amanda and has two amazing girls, Mackenzie and Rhyan. Coach Accardo is a 2002 graduate of Goodrich High School and had the honor to play under Coach Alward from 1999-2001.
Defensive Backs - Corners Coach
Coach Ulshafer started coaching with Goodrich this year but has a lot of experience with being technically sound in the Defensive Backfield. Coach Ulshafer is a 2000 Graduate of Goodrich and played under Coach Alward 1997-2000. After graduating from Goodrich Coach Ulshafer went on to play Corner for Adrian College from 2000-2004 where we started at Corner. Coach Ulshafer is the Executive Director of Security and Safety for the GISD during the day, he is married to his wonderful wife Jessyca for 11 years. Coach Ulshafer has four amazing kids, Ava, Landon, Alivia, and Liam.
Coach Coffman is in his second full year with the Martians but recently took on a bigger role of running and maintaining our strength and conditioning program. Coach Coffman is also thee founder of Into The Storm Performance. His passion for maximizing athletes' potential was sparked directly from his own athletic career. Coach Coffman attended The University of Akron to long snap for the Zips. As his own athletic career reached its conclusion, Coach Coffman dedicated himself to becoming an expert at helping other athletes achieve their own goals both mentally and physically, and he sought to pursue an education in Physical Therapy.
While attending The University of Akron, Coach Coffman pursued his Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. During his time at The University of Akron he was able to receive 4 Academic All MAC honors, was a contributor to winning the MAC east division in 2017.
Coach Coffman then attended The University of South Florida for his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During his time at USF he developed his clinical reasoning, visual analysis, rehabilitation and progression skills. Coach Coffman continued to further his knowledge by obtaining a NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification which is considered the gold standard of certification. This allows him to provide high level of knowledge regarding training, nutrition and recovery for all athletes of any caliber.
Coach Coffman recently got married to his now wonderful wife Lauren Coffman.
