Head Coach
Coach Thomas Alward is regarded as one of the foundational pillars of Goodrich Athletics, having dedicated over 35 years to coaching at Goodrich. Few programs are fortunate enough to have a coach who has invested so much time and energy for so long, and Coach Alward does it because of his genuine love for the kids and the game.
His coaching career spans more than 50 years, beginning at Flint Central as Head JV Coach before moving to his alma mater, Burton Bendle. For nearly 34 years, he has been a cornerstone at Goodrich, while also building a successful 35-year career as a sales representative for Jostens.
Coach Alward is married to his high school sweetheart, Darlene, and together they have two children, Trevor and Jennifer. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, watching the Detroit Tigers, and spending time with his six grandchildren: Collin, Emma, Luke, Delaney, Neely, and Grady.
An interesting fact about Coach Alward is that he graduated from the University of Nebraska, where he played on a National Championship team. He was drafted into the NFL by the New York Jets and later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, becoming the first player ever to sign an NFL contract with the Buccaneers.

Defensive Coordinator
Coach Trevor Alward brings over 30 years of coaching experience, having served in various roles at Parchment, Waterford Mott, and Goodrich. For the past 28 years, he has worked alongside his father, Coach Tom Alward, contributing in multiple capacities including Linebackers, Running Backs, Defensive Backs, and Youth Football. He is also the founder of the Goodrich Youth Program, demonstrating his commitment to developing young athletes.
Outside of coaching, Trevor serves as the Superintendent for Grand Blanc Community Schools. He has been married to his wife, Shannon, for 25 years, and together they have three sons: Collin, Luke, and Grady. Trevor earned his Doctorate from the University of Nebraska, the same institution where his father graduated and played on a National Championship team.

Offensive Line Coach
Coach Bruce Edwards is an integral part of the Goodrich Football Program, contributing far beyond his role as Offensive Line Coach. In addition to coaching, he works within the school, drives buses for athletic events, maintains the athletic fields, and transports the football trailer to away games, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the program.
Coach Edwards brings 40 years of coaching experience, with 30 of those years dedicated to Goodrich. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Flint Hamady, and later coached at Lake Fenton before joining the Martians. His expertise extends beyond football, having coached Track and Powerlifting, the latter of which he introduced at Goodrich in 1997.
Bruce is married to his high school sweetheart, Drew, and together they have four children: Dana, Abbey, Scott, and Dominic. In his limited free time, he enjoys spending quality moments with his five grandchildren.

Defensive Line Coach
Coach T has over 18 years of coaching experience, with 13 of those years dedicated to Goodrich. He began his coaching career in 2009 as an Offensive Line Coach at Burton Bentley, later serving as Co-Head Coach and eventually Head Coach for three years.
A proud 2001 graduate of Goodrich High School, Coach T had the privilege of playing under Coach Alward from 1998 to 2000. Today, he works as a Loss Control Consultant with Accident Fund Insurance.
Coach T has been married to his wife, Jessica, for eight years. Together, they share their home with three beloved dogs Marvin, Murphy, and Izzie, and enjoy spending time with them whenever possible.

Defensive Backs and Wide Receivers Coach
Coach Mahaffy brings a decade of coaching experience, beginning at his alma mater, Brandon, before joining the Martians in 2019. In addition to football, he coached freshman basketball at Goodrich during the 2019–2020 season and currently serves as the Head JV Boys Basketball Coach.
He has been married to his wife, Ashlee, for 18 years, and together they have four children: Grace, JJ, Olivia, and Julia. When the family isn’t attending sporting events, they enjoy camping and spending time with loved ones.
Professionally, Coach Mahaffy has worked for General Motors for 20 years and relocated to Goodrich after transferring to Flint Assembly in 2012.

Running Backs and Linebackers Coach
Coach Accardo brings nearly eight years of coaching experience, with five of those years at Goodrich. He began his coaching career in 2012 as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Burton Bentley, working alongside Coach T. Known for his deep knowledge of the game, Coach Accardo is a valuable asset to the program.
By day, he works as an IT Sales Recruiter. He is married to his wife, Amanda, and together they have two daughters, Mackenzie and Rhyan. A proud 2002 graduate of Goodrich High School, Coach Accardo had the honor of playing under Coach Alward from 1999 to 2001.

Defensive Backs - Corners Coach
Coach Ulshafer joined the Goodrich coaching staff in 2024 as a volunteer and stepped into a full-time role in 2025 as the Defensive Backs – Corners Coach. Known for his technical expertise in the defensive backfield, he brings valuable experience and attention to detail to the program.
A 2000 graduate of Goodrich High School, Coach Ulshafer played under Coach Alward from 1997 to 2000 before continuing his football career at Adrian College, where he was a starting cornerback from 2000 to 2004.
During the day, he serves as the Executive Director of Security and Safety for the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD). He has been married to his wife, Jessyca, for 11 years, and together they have four children: Ava, Landon, Alivia, and Liam.

Head Sports Performance Coach and Recruiting Coordinator
Coach Coffman is in his fourth year with the Martians and recently assumed a larger role overseeing and maintaining the strength and conditioning program. He is also the founder of Into The Storm Performance, a training initiative driven by his passion for helping athletes reach their full potential, a passion sparked by his own athletic career.
Coach Coffman attended the University of Akron, where he played as a long snapper for the Zips. During his time there, he earned four Academic All-MAC honors and contributed to the team’s MAC East Division Championship in 2017. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science before pursuing his Doctor of Physical Therapy at the University of South Florida.
While at USF, Coach Coffman honed his skills in clinical reasoning, visual analysis, rehabilitation, and progression. He further advanced his expertise by earning the NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification—the gold standard in the field—allowing him to provide elite-level guidance in training, nutrition, and recovery for athletes of all calibers.
Coach Coffman recently married his wife, Lauren, and continues to dedicate himself to helping athletes achieve their goals both mentally and physically.
